Weekend Bliss

This post has been in my head for three weeks...time to get it out!

Three weeks ago, Brandon and I got away for an overnight. It had been a year and a half since we'd been able to do that, so I thought it was time. :) With this past year requiring more time at work, I was glad to get Brandon away and to myself!

We dropped off the girls at Grandma's after lunch on Friday and hit the road. We headed east a couple of hours. On the way there we talked and listened to a couple of Kevin Leman broadcasts on parenting. I found it refreshing!

First stop was mall #1; I was looking for a pair of shoes in my size. Struck out. We then headed to the most amazing jewelry store. We've been looking for mother's rings since Sadie was born. I should have bought one back then when I still liked the cheaper rings. Hah! We found one that is unique, and we loved everything about it, except for the price. Someday I'll have that mother's ring on my finger...
We then went straight to Cheesecake Factory. YUM! Couldn't believe that of all the items on the menu, we ordered the same thing. We then had discussion on what kind of cheesecake we would share. We compromised and ordered what he wanted but got caramel on the side.
From there we went to see a movie. One of my favorite authors is Karen Kingsbury. She had one of her books made into a movie, and it had just been released. I had been waiting to see this for over a year when I heard about it being produced. So, my manly man husband was willing to go see a "chick flick" with me. Isn't he great? I knew this story, "Like Dandelion Dust" was not a girly love story, so I had a hunch he would like it. It was a good, clean movie but a hard one to watch. I cried, and I knew the ending! When we left the theatre, Brandon even said several times, "That was a hard watch." And then he said the best thing, "Now I know why when you read one of her books it's hard for you to put it down." He gets it; yeah! :)
The next morning we went out to Panera for breakfast. Then we headed to the furniture store where one can spend hours. I have wanted new living room furniture for a LONG time. Thankfully, we agreed on what we liked (we looked at ~75 couches). However, as my mom has said many times, "wine taste and beer money." We did feel like the Lord blessed us with an amazing deal on part of the set, so we came home with some of it.
After lunch at Olive Garden we went to a huge outfitter store...Brandon can spend hours looking at hunting and fishing things. Thankfully we didn't have hours. :)
It was nice to get away, to talk with my husband, to laugh together, make some more great memories, and to get some things done we wanted to get done...without children!
The girls had a great time at their grandparents. Thanks for watching them!
Before leaving, Analise was more sad then I thought she would be. The night before when I tucked her into bed, she was teary eyed. Brandon helped a lot by seeing the girls in morning before he left for work. (We don't see him most mornings). Not only did he make sure he saw them, but he also went and got them donuts! What a dad!
Analise had a pile of items she wanted me to pack for her. So I asked her, "So if I take all this, you won't miss us?' She replies, "I talked to God about that." She had prayed to herself that she wouldn't miss us too much. How sweet!
Thank you Lord for the most amazing man you have blessed me with!

I am so glad you had that time. We haven't had it in a while (though not quite as long as you :). We often feel like little kids, escaping the worries of life. We literally skip to our car. I had to laugh on the wine taste comment. I cannot imagine your mom saying that for some reason. It was so sweet what your girls did; they love their mom and dad!
