Other CO Memories

Some other memories from our time together in CO that just didn't seem to fit in with the other days.

Sunday night we had a family meeting. We went over what the week might look like so we could all be on the same page. Grandma had put together a family scavenger hunt for families to do while they were out and about. Our family proudly came in 3rd. Yep - that would be last. :)
This meeting was full of anticipation for a great week ahead.

We drove by this sign on the way up to the house.

Analise spent some time in the hot tub with these two cousins.

Sweet nephew Daniel
Grandma also brought two lizards to play a hike/seek game with them. At dinner she would ask, "Who found Lizzie today?" They showed up in some fun places. If you found a Lizzie, you got to hide it. This continued all week.
One of our family meals at the big dining room table.
And the family picture at the end of the week. Those smiles are genuine!

I finish this two months after our trip, but I haven't forgotten what a blessing of a week it was. When 2012 comes to an end, and we talk about the highlights of the year, this week will be towards the top!

Friday Fun

Friday in CO was a laid back, relaxing kind of day. We started the day by going on a hike that was close to the house. It turned out to be more than we had hoped for.

My hiker girls

At the overlook where we could see the creek
There is just something about a creek in the mountains that I find so peaceful. And the girls don't get tired of throwing rocks in the water.

It looks like Maisie is relaxing and enjoying God's creation. She's actually in a timeout.

Brandon has a tradition of pushing down a tree.
Naturally, each of the girls then had to try, too.

We were on our hike back up the mountainside enjoying our time together, when we heard something running through the trees. It was noisy and not that far away from us. My heart stopped as we watched a moose run through the trees and down to the creek where we just come from minutes ago. I love seeing moose and seeing them in RMNP is great. Seeing them in real nature is amazing.
We watched him for quite awhile.
Quick funny about that. Back at the overlook, we pulled out the binoculars to see the moose. I gave them to Maisie and asked her if she could see the moose. She answers, "No, but I can see the ocean."

After the hike we went for a scenic drive. It was really pretty, and we saw some mule deer up close.
At the end our hike Sadie collected these items to make a nest for birds.
We spent the afternoon relaxing at the house. After a busy week, we all needed some down time. Later, though, we met up with D, S and boys for some fun times.
We met at a golf course that offered "family golf." They have two holes set aside for family play. For $20 you get a cart and can play those two whole as many times as you want. My girls are somewhat familiar with a golf course/golf cart. However, the other family never golfs, so this made it even more fun.
Reflecting just a bit on this time - It was special for me to do something that I enjoy and such a part of my upbringing with family members that have never been on a course before. So often when we do things together as a family it's on the boat/fishing/at a campground riding bikes. These are fun, but they aren't anything I did growing up. I guess I felt like my past life met my current life for a day, and I got to introduce that to my local family.
I think Analise would rather drive the cart instead of a ball.
Such a pretty course tucked back in the mountains.
Brandon taught his brother how to golf. Golf lesson 101. He did great!
The younger kids used my clubs and took turns teeing off. They had so much fun, and I just enjoyed  seeing them have a great time.

After taking turns so nicely on the first hole, I distributed more clubs so the kids were all over whacking that ball. My nephew K seems to have a knack for it.

We all went back to the house for a pizza dinner, and as a family we reminisced about what a great week we had had. So sad to see it come to an end.
Saturday we loaded up all the vehicles and headed home. Thankfully we had something to look forward to at home, or  it may have been a bit depressing leaving the mountains and memories behind.

Adam's Falls and RMNP

(Side note. We just switched internet providers. Instead of each picture taking about 5 minutes to upload, it takes about 15 seconds. Woo-hoo) That is good for a blogger who posts lots of pictures!
Consider yourself warned.

Thursday morning our family went out for a day of fun. My friend whom I had met earlier in the week had mentioned a good, short hike for the girls. It turned out to be the perfect hike for us, and other family members ended up taking the hike, too.
This picture is on our drive there. Grandma had bought Bubble Yum for the grandkids. On the 30 minute drive there, all three girls learned how to blow a bubble. Yep - Sadie learned the same day as Analise. You should have heard the laughter and excitement in the van over each bubble. One time gum went flying across the van.
Sadie blowing a bubble.

Ready to hike Adam's Falls...a half mile walk to a beautiful destination.

Ta-da...we made it and loved it!

I was so enamoured by the pretty falls, I almost forgot about the other scenery around me. Not too shabby. :)

Me with Maisie - even she didn't complain about the hiking or heat.

Further up the stream the girls had fun sitting by the water and throwing in rocks. It was so peaceful.

Grand Lake - love

We drove into town and ate at a quaint pizza place. As we left we ran into Aunt Sarena and Uncle Dave. How fun!

We left Grand Lake after some souviner shopping to take the girls back into the park with the goal of finding moose.
We first came upon some more elk.

Maisie thought of this on her own; she's an elk, too!
Back up the visitor center - this time with the girls

On our way back down. Analise had been SO bummed that she hadn't seen any moose, so we encouraged her to pray about it.

God answered prayer - and not with just one moose but several in a field.
We were all so excited.

Our house from the main road

That night we celebrated Aunt Sarena's birthday. A yummy meal on the deck overlooking the mountains - a birthday celebration to remember.

Out of all the souvenir shops and things to chose from, Analise and cousin B chose the same shirt in different colors.
Maisie chose this pink shirt.

Men and their binaculors.

Thursday was another memorable day!
